SPVS Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy from SPVS offers a high level education in business and leadership within the veterinary industry, giving vet practice owners the vital tools needed to compete in this rapidly shifting landscape, with the aim of bridging the skills gap between veterinary and business expertise.

The SPVS Leadership Academy covers important areas for business success, such as Strategy, Leadership, Financials, Understanding your clients, Performance management, Recruitment and retention, Culture, Operational effectiveness and Investment decisions

Mike Clare: Mike is a veterinary business consultant, having spent 8 years as Managing Director and owner of a multi-site independent small animal vet practice. Mike has experience in buying and selling practices, new practice integration, systems optimisation, industry benchmarking, culture change and strategic planning. He is Programme Leader of the SPVS Leadership Academy and has spoken about culture change at industry events such as BSAVA Congress as well as on projects for companies such as Henry Schein and Amerisource Bergen. He has also contributed to the Veterinary Business Journal. Mike is CEO of VetRunner, a company specialising in providing business services to vet practices. He is passionate about transforming the vet industry with better insights and understanding.
Carol Foussat: Carol has delivered a programme design and delivery for one of the biggest business leader development programmes in the UK – the Business Growth Programme run out of Cranfield School of Management. This focuses on owner managers, and has in the past included some veterinary practices. In addition, Carol has worked on development programmes for senior leaders in larger organizations including Virgin Media, the Financial Services Authority, Insight Investment and many others. Carol’s background includes both business and psychology qualifications, including an MBA at Cranfield, where she won the Strategy Prize, and many psychometric tools. Carol works with individual MDs who run their own growing businesses and has done for more than a dozen years. Her background was in Strategy and Marketing before seeing how much the personal affects group performance when she started to specialize in human behaviour. Now How has been running for over 10 years and runs in-house programmes for larger organisations.
How it works:
This is a developmental programme rather than a skills training programme. That means it starts where you are now in terms of understanding yourself and your business and moves on according to your own needs, circumstances and motivations. The strategic outcomes will be unique to every delegate.
There will be plenty of interaction between delegates in groups, facilitated by the programme leaders. You will have assignments to complete in the 8 week break between modules that will enable you to crystallise your strategic business plan and understand your leadership style. You will have a one to one phone call between modules with one of the programme leaders to make sure you are getting the most out of your programme and to support your understanding of assignments.
When, where and how much?
The first 2018 SPVS Leadership Academy takes place at the Holiday Inn, Guildford, GU2 7XZ on Monday 17th & Tuesday 18th September, followed by Module 2 on Monday 5th & Tuesday 6th November.
This 4 day course over 2 dates gives you 30 HOURS OF BUSINESS CPD and is excellent value at £2000+VAT per delegate, or £1400+VAT for SPVS members.
