Managing Anxiety in a Veterinary Leadership Role
Jackie Layng, Village Vets, Ireland

Jackie will outline her own struggle with anxiety through clinical practice, orthopaedic referrals and now in a senior leadership role. While travelling on a motorcycle in Central America, she had a near death experience and will share the important lessons learnt from this in managing to succeed, despite her tremendous anxiety.

Resisting the fixing reflex for better communication and to support behaviour change in others
Bronwen Williams

Professionals often have very strong fixing reflexes to advise, direct, instruct people to do what is needed or seems obvious. However, humans are wayward creatures who very often don’t do as told or become even more fixed in unwanted behaviours. If we can resist, or at least reduce, our own righting reflex, we can support people to choose, own and make better, more consistent changes. Resisting the fixing reflex can be useful in all areas of our work and life for improved communication, better outcomes and relationships and to reduce conflict and interpersonal difficulties.

Halting Self-Sabotage in Its Tracks
Nicola Kinnard-Comedie, NKC. Equestrian Training

Self-sabotage is when people do, or don’t, take actions that support growth or their next level of success. Such behaviours can affect personal and professional success as well as physical and mental health. Self-sabotaging behaviours can show up in a variety of ways and understanding why we display these behaviours, and how to recognise such thoughts, habits and patterns is key to halting it. Then new behaviours and mental programming can be developed to support growth, with benefits to an individual’s personal and professional life.
