Creating Progressive Practice Teams
So, what is a team?
Gemma Mogridge, RVN, Linnaeus
We talk about teams and teamwork but what exactly does a good team look like? How can we shape teams to be better without understanding what an effective team actually is? Sharing what we know and using examples from other industries can help veterinary teams understand why teams are important to our patient’s safety, our own well-being and the success of our business. Without the use of cliches or puns, Gemma will aim to give a clearer understanding of what a team is.
Creating curious collaborations for progressive practice teams
Rachel Dean, VetPartners
Collaboration is key to a successful veterinary team at local, national and international levels. Developing an environment where colleagues are given prioritised time to interact, understand each other’s perspectives, and listen to different views is critical – if we are to progress our ways of working. Developing collective leadership models that involve all members of the team leads to a joint responsibility to innovate practice. This session will draw on the Rachel’s ‘portfolio’ career of working and creating novel networks of people in many different veterinary settings. She will give insights and examples of her own experiences in developing productive collaborations by understanding together that progress comes from successes but also from the simple, complex and intelligent failures that happen along the way.
Practical tips to build, create or renovate your team in practice
Steven Goodear, Black Sheep Vets
Once we know what want our team to be, the next part is the how or what you actually do or don’t do on a day-to-day basis to make this happen. This can be overwhelming in the melee of daily juggling, firefighting and running the practice – which is probably why you’ve taken some time to come away from your practice – to think and plan. We will go through some practical suggestions and ideas that you can start to implement immediately to drive your team forward.
