SPVS CMA Readiness tracker

The Tracker is the working spine of the programme: a simple two-page template completed at Meeting 1 and updated at every session. It records status, ownership, next actions and the logic behind key decisions.  The output will be a clear dashboard, specific to your practice, giving clear actions, timelines and ownership to acting as a working document.

Getting CMA Ready

Thursday 1st October 2026, 1:30pm – 3pm

The final CMA remedies and implementation timetable are now clear — but what needs to be done now, and what can wait until closer to March? This practical session will focus on the key remedy areas affecting first-opinion practices, helping you identify priorities, break the work into manageable chunks and involve your team in getting things done. We’ll also introduce the SPVS CMA Readiness Planner to help you structure your approach and track progress.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the webinar, delegates will be able to:

  1. Understand the key CMA remedy areas and identify the priorities for their practice.
  2. Develop a practical implementation plan, breaking the work into manageable actions and engaging the wider team.
  3. Use the SPVS CMA Readiness Planner to organise, monitor and support progress towards implementation.

The SPVS CMA Working Group

The SPVS CMA Working Group – Pete Orpin, Kate Higgins and Vicki Farbon – has been closely involved in the CMA’s veterinary market investigation from its earliest stages through to the publication of the final remedies.

The group has provided the CMA with detailed evidence and practical insight into the realities of running veterinary practices. This has included contributing to discussions and formal hearings on transparency, pricing, prescription medicines, client choice, practice finances, regulation and the potential impact of proposed remedies on independent and start-up practices. The group has also undertaken detailed financial modelling and member research to understand the potential impact of changes to medicine supply and pricing, and maintained an ongoing dialogue with the CMA about the need for proportionate implementation, adequate transition periods and solutions that improve transparency and client choice without creating unintended consequences.

What is our medicines strategy – and why?

Thursday 5th November 2026, 1:30pm – 3pm

This strategic session will help practices move from understanding the CMA changes to deciding which medicines strategy is right for them, exploring the options, trade-offs, financial implications and evidence needed to make an informed decision. Using practical decision tools and a safe-space case discussion, we’ll help you develop a clear strategy, decide when to deploy it, and identify the triggers that might mean you need to change course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the webinar, delegates will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the strategic options for medicines and understand the financial and client implications of each approach.
  2. Use practical frameworks and SPVS decision tools to identify the approach that best fits their practice.
  3. Develop a clear medicines strategy and implementation plan, including when to act, what evidence to monitor and what might trigger a change in direction

From price list to tangible value

Thursday 3rd December 2026, 1:30pm – 3pm

Communicating price and value confidently in the post-CMA world

The CMA remedies are changing client communications, but visibility of information on its own doesn’t build client confidence in value. This session looks at the communication principles that turn price transparency into value that’s seen and understood, and avoids defensive or transactional communication. We’ll cover how to present prices and estimates so they build trust, how to talk about the CMA-driven changes without sounding defensive, and how to help the whole team talk about money with confidence. Using real client scenarios, delegates will leave with practical, simple tips and a roadmap to create consistent price communications across the practice.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:

  1. Present transparent pricing in a way that reinforces value
  2. Manage uncertainty in estimates and cases where costs increase
  3. Explain CMA-driven communication changes while maintaining trust and avoiding defensive language

Website and the 10 second test.
Can a client understand our prices – and why they should choose us – within 10 seconds of visiting our website?

Thursday 14th January 2027, 1:30pm – 3pm

With greater transparency comes greater responsibility (but also opportunity) – not quite as catchy as Spider-Man’s tagline, but definitely a less taxing delivery when it comes to swinging into action!

There’s a common misphrasing that we’re seeing at the moment: “your website will be your practice’s most powerful tool”. It’s simply not true. Your website is ALREADY one of the most important pieces of your practice’s toolkit. The CMA remedies have felt at times like poorly timed, additional noise, but what they have done is force us to recognise just how valuable the services we offer are and how important the technology we already have access to is.

Rather than viewing the changes as another compliance exercise, this session will explore how practices can turn transparency into an opportunity: to make information easier to find, communicate value more clearly, attract the right clients and create a stronger, more fluid synergy between your online and offline offerings.

We’ll look at the practical things that matter, from making pricing, services and wellness plans easy to find, to showing value alongside price, communicating what makes your practice different and making sure your team can update information without unnecessary hassle. We’ll also look at discoverability, including AI-assisted search engines, and ask the deceptively simple question: what does a prospective client understand about your practice within 10 seconds of landing on your website?

The aim isn’t to create a perfect website or give practices another enormous to-do list. It’s to identify the changes that will make the biggest difference, both to transparency and to the client journey, and leave you with a prioritised and actionable list to implement without feeling any level of digital overwhelm.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:

  1. Spot the opportunities hidden within the CMA requirements, identifying where greater transparency can also improve the client experience, acquisition and understanding of value.
  2. Apply the “10-second test” to their own website, assessing whether a new client can quickly understand what the practice offers, what it costs and, importantly, why they should choose it.
  3. Create a prioritised website action list focused on the changes most likely to improve transparency, discoverability and client engagement — without embarking on a full website redesign.

Health Plans: Transparency Without Losing the Proposition

Thursday 11th February 2027, 1:30pm – 3pm

Health plans are the best retention tool most practices already own. They’re also part of the CMA remedies where it’s easiest to get twitchy and strip the entire proposition back to a basic discount saving.

This session is about doing both jobs at once. Getting the mandatory information right (standalone values, savings calculations, monthly and annual costs, usage and cancellation terms) without drowning clients in small print. And then moving the conversation beyond “you save £X” to what plans actually do for pets and pet owners: budgeting, preventative care, convenience, reassurance and easier access to advice.

We’ll look at whether your current plan stacks up, whether your savings claims would survive scrutiny, and whether your literature and website are still fit for purpose. We’ll also cover how a well-run plan helps defend against medicine income walking out of the door. You’ll leave with a health-plan readiness checklist and a short, prioritised list of actions you can start on the same afternoon.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify the health plan information the CMA remedies require you to provide, and evidence savings claims in a way that stands up.
  2. Assess whether your current plan, literature and website content are still fit for purpose, and know what to fix first.
  3. Explain the wider value of your plan to clients simply and credibly, without relying on “you save £X”.

Justin has spent 20 years at the coalface of veterinary practice business and marketing, with award-winning roles at White Cross Vets and VetPartners before founding Practice Made Purrfect in 2020.

He’s opened more than 15 new practices, built emotive veterinary brands from scratch, and led the profession’s adoption of online booking, reminders, live chat and SEO. But his real obsession is pet health plans. He’s spent over a decade designing, launching and growing them, taking client practices past 40% penetration and building plans that clients value for far more than the discount.

Practice Made Purrfect now runs marketing for around 20 independent and small group practices across the UK and Ireland, which gives Justin a front row seat on how the CMA remedies are landing in the real world.

Are we genuinely CMA ready?

Thursday 4th March 2027, 1:30pm – 3pm

…or have we simply completed the paperwork? This final panel session will review what has been implemented, what has proved challenging and what practices have learned across medicines, websites, health plans, people, workflows and client communication. Drawing on real implementation experiences and the SPVS Readiness Tracker, the session will identify remaining priorities, ongoing risks and who needs to own compliance as part of everyday practice.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:

  1. Assess their practice’s CMA readiness, identifying completed actions, outstanding risks and areas requiring further work.
  2. Learn from implementation experience, sharing what worked, what proved challenging and how approaches have evolved as evidence emerged.
  3. Define the next steps for ongoing compliance, including priorities, responsibilities, monitoring and governance.

All our speakers from our previous sessions will be taking part in this final panel session to summarise and review the discussions that have taken place over the past 6 months.
