VetXML

AIMS OF THE CONSORTIUM

The VetXML Consortium is dedicated to the creation and specification of VetXML, a proposed common data format for the Veterinary Profession.
The purpose of VetXML is to enable the straight-forward exchange of information between disparate IT systems within the profession. Currently, the initial version of VetXML is being devised by the founding consortium members.

VetXML is a non-proprietary standard under the control of the VetXML Consortium, whose overall direction is under the auspices of SPVS (the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons). The current Chairperson of the Consortium is Mike Vaughan.
The overall aim of VetXML is to provide improved integration of practice management systems with each other and with other IT veterinary systems, to maximise the service provided to the veterinary profession.

COMMUNICATION STANDARDS

Reap real benefits – starting with eClaims

With todays constant need to communicate through a broad range of software and services, there has never been a greater requirement for a universal language.

The Vet-XML Consortium is an industry body governed by SPVS that is defining communication standards to make it easier for the veterinary profession to communicate and exchange data.

This collaborative approach is already reaping real benefits. For instance, one of the first applications is electronic insurance claims, where communication standards:

- Reduces errors
- Frees up time
- Improves cashflow
- Reduces settlement time.

The enabling technology behind these benefits are a common data format (VetXML) and a common communications platform.
